Sparrows are often overlooked in favour of birds with more vibrant colours. But in the case of a charcoal drawing, everything becomes black and white. Charcoal simplifies the richness of colours, as if to say: we are all equal, we are all part of the creation, none of us is more important than the other. I used compressed charcoal, mixed media textured paper and special erasers to get the right tonal values.
